Vaxxed! From cover up to catastrophe. First screened in June 2016.
YouTube deleted this video claiming it is false information but it is absolutely not that. It exposes a cover up at the US government CDC of a study in 2002 that confirmed a causal link between the MMR vaccine and autism. A whistleblower, William W. Thompson, who worked for the CDC, was one a group of scientists who worked on the study. He resisted orders to destroy documentation and eventually exposed the fraud in the final published paper where the data was carefully selected to show no link between the vaccine and autism.
It is a gripping story that might sound like the plot of a good fictional thriller, but like is often said, truth is stranger than fiction.
I must admit I only recently watched this movie for the first time. The reason is that when it came out I was somewhat ambivalent towards vaccines as I had come from believing that doctors and modern medicine could really help our health. But through my own experiences I found that was hardly the case.
I recommend that you give this movie a chance. Don’t listen to so-called arguments that call it all a ‘conspiracy theory’. It isn’t. It is based on real operational science. The movie exposes the efforts of sinful men to cover up what was actually discovered through scientific investigation.

Thanks, John. We will watch the movie. We have always thought there was a connection to vaccines. Never saw a case of autism when I was young. But we noticed the increase in autism in the last 20-30 years.

It seems odd for a person of your scientific background to recommend this movie without qualification. There is no honest representation of the data in this movie. For example the claim is autism has risen (true), but caused by vaccines (debated). A little bit of googling shows that the definition if autism has been widened over the years, so yes, there’s more autism, but generally at the lower end of the spectrum. Incidences of mental retardation have dropped though. The total number of people with severe mental disabilities has remained the same. So it seems we classify fewer people in one category, and more in the other. That’s just one example of manipulation of the data in the movie.
I agree the movie asks important questions and that the concerns of these parents have not been taken seriously, but when you cannot even present all the data honestly it seems this might be a case where neither side is very right.

I don’t agree. You have answered a matter before you have fully investigated it. This movie only starts the discussion. It brings out the very real issue of fraud and cover up in the medical community for the purpose of profit and power. You seemed to have ignored this but taken what you could find on a biased sanitised Google search. This is not “conspiracy theory” stuff but simply the out workings of corrupt sinful people who have a lot at stake to protect.
There is a significant body of published work that does show the connection between autism and vaccines. You should take some time and read some of it. This might be a place to start. https://childrenshealthdefense.org/news/here-we-go-again-more-vaccine-autism-denialism/

The article you link to seems to do the same thing. I quote “autism spectrum disorder (ASD), which now affects 1 in 36 children in the U.S.”
But if this is caused by a widening definition of autism, there’s something else going on to. If the total number of people with severe disabilities has stayed the same in the last 100 years, this also is an indication.
I would rather see an article which looks as these basic questions instead of diving straight into difficult to ascertain claims. So are there articles which clearly show an increase in the number of children with severe disabilities? Like non-verbal? That to me seems to be the starting point. One needs to show a statistically significant increase in this group.

Have you watched the film Vaxxed? That is all about the causal link to autism from the MMR vaccine. When Dr Andrew Wakefield saw that a high number of these kids had gastrointestinal problems he wanted to test the hypothesis that this was from the vaccine which in turn resulted in regression.
Add to that the aggressive vaccine schedule, where no vaccine is ever tested against an inner placebo, one could develop a good argument for that hypothesis.
Then the film focuses the CDC scientist whistlblower who exposed the cover up by the CDC of the MMR/autism study that showed a strong correlation between the two. Did you listen to any of that?

Yes, I watched it carefully. But that study was withdrawn. Although I haven’t studied the reasons in depth, from what I’ve seen and understood of those reasons they would normally have satisfied me that indeed there were considerable issues with this study. For starters, it was just on 12 kids. That’s a very small study. That is not “a considerable number of kids”. Author had taken money from lawyer suing vaccine makers. Not a good look. The UK medical council ruled that Wakefield carried out clinically unnecessary and invasive tests on children without ethical approval or appropriate qualifications.
That does not inspire confidence.
But again I don’t need to study everything in depth if basic numbers cannot be supplied or don’t add up. Yes autism has increased, but the definition has been widened so much almost everybody is autistic at some level. But can one answer me this simple question: has serious mental retardation increased?
If so, could one link be that parents get children way too late?
I do not believe vaccines are safe. We know that some children die (the US tracks this for the polio vaccine for example). It’s small, but it happens.
I watched Vaxxed II as well, which I found a much stronger movie. These parents need better answers. I want better answers. If it is that easy to find parents who have experienced an immediate serious effect on their child after a vaccination, there is something going on.
Yes, there is a story to tell. But if you do that via a biased representation of actual facts, you’re not helping that story. That’s my point. That’s why I think some qualifications are needed.
PS: you’re not arguing with someone in favour of vaccines, so if this move cannot even convince me on basis of the data presented, I doubt it would convince many others. It can only convince on basis of emotional appeal, and then we have left the realm of scientific investigation.

On the Andy Wakefield saga you might be interested to watch his interview with Del Bigtree HighWireTalk.
Prof. Walker-Smith, Wakefield’s co-author, had all the necessary approvals for the study on the children. They also had all the necessary approvals from the parents. There was nothing covert about that study.
On the CDC MMR vaccine-autism cover up which was a large part of the film: Dr. William Thompson, a senior CDC scientist working on a major study to determine whether the MMR vaccine was associated with increased rates of autism, came forward in 2014 alleging CDC fraud. Dr. Thompson stated that when the data showed a significant vaccine-autism association, supervisors ordered the CDC researchers working on the study to bring all of their notes and study-related documents to a meeting to deposit them into a large trash can to be destroyed. Suspecting foul play, Dr. Thompson kept a full copy of all the records. Several years later, compelled by his conscience, he contacted Brian Hooker, PhD with a full confession. Dr. Thompson provided Dr. Hooker with over 10,000 pages of documents supporting his allegations and other examples of malfeasance.
Thompson explained that the original study found a strong correlation between MMR vaccine and autism especially in boys of African-American descent. But that was not what was finally published, hence the whistle-blowing. So it seems that it has been made difficult to get hard published studies on this. That is the nature of the cover up.
There are many studies though that are available and worth studying. They do relate to mercury and aluminium in the brains of autistic children among other issues. These are circumstantial and not necessarily directly connected with vaccines. But we know vaccines deliver these poisons to children.
It is worth noting that Dr Brian Hooker reanalysed the MMR-autism connection in the CDC data that Thompson gave him and published the paper in the journal Translational Neurodegeneration 2014; vol 3, page 16. But had it retracted also. However PubMedCentral (PubMed.gov) admitted to scientific fraud in doing so. The publisher fabricated a fictional conflict of interest and wrote the reason for their retraction was as follows:
