The lecture: Development of an “old” universe in science

This lecture deals the historical philosophical development of the notion that the universe is very old. It outlines how worldviews have changed and developed that are intended to replace the biblical worldview with an atheistic humanist worldview. That has meant assuming long ages for the earth and the universe. It is shown how in reality it is a pagan worldview that has grown to dominate ‘so-called science’ today. It is not actually science but scientism. Evidence/observations do not speak for themselves, they must be interpreted and nowadays it is all within the big bang/evolution/”old” universe worldview.

Lecture was given August 1st 2015. See Age and Reason Seminar Adelaide for details.

Lemaitre’s cosmology leads back to Rome

—the danger of compromise with paganism

Recently a YEC biblical creationist friend wrote me with a proposal in relation to a biblical creationist discussion group’s consideration about how the big bang cosmology proposed by Abbott Georges Lemaître might be applicable to creationist cosmology.

Some of us have been looking at the cosmology of G. Lemaître. His model starts with a cold big bang which almost instantly produces all the elements via the breakdown of a vast ‘polyneutron.’  This model seems especially interesting because:
1. we are short on viable cosmological models;
2. it is historically the first big bang model;
3. it was developed by a Christian, possibly inspired by the Holy Spirit;
4. the model is very unique and out of the box;
5. it was nearly buried for about half a century, and is now “re-surfacing”;
6. it allows a near-instant creation of all the elements, and at all the right ratios;
7. it has been considered a viable model by Nobel Laureates, Harvard Professors, etc.
8. it predicted that cosmic rays would be high speed atomic nuclei.
9. it predicted cosmic expansion would be accelerating.
Regarding the last point, a quote from Wikipedia: “In 1931, Lemaitre was the first scientist to propose the expansion of the universe was actually accelerating which was confirmed observationally in the 1990s through observations of very distant Type IA supernova with the Hubble Space Telescope.”

I see you are interested in and discussing Lemaître’s cosmology. I assume you are interested in it from the point of view of adapting it to a YEC creation scenario. But I would caution you to consider the following.

The big bang is pagan philosophy

Is the big bang evolution story of the Universe really science? And is the big bang a valid starting point to argue that science supports the biblical narrative history from the Genesis account and elsewhere? Can we consider a big bang creation in our apologetics?

BB evolution

Foundations for our apologetics

In apologetics1 we are engaged in a spiritual war, which we fight on a daily basis. We win some battles, we lose some, but we know that the war will eventually be won by God. He has told us that fact. Often however our comrades in arms, i.e. other Christians, may themselves not clearly see the enemy’s tactics. That does not mean they cannot see the enemy but may be they are too close in battle to see the whole war.

Faithful are the wounds of a friend; but the kisses of an enemy are deceitful. Proverbs 27:6 (KJV)

Sometimes we must criticise what our friends have said in an effort to prevent the enemy from developing a breach in the wall of truth and eventually destroying the foundations. In this case our friends are our fellow Christians who have gotten off the track by absorbing too much of the pagan culture in which they live.

Development of an “old” universe in science

Notes of a lecture on the historical philosophical development of the notion that the universe is very old. The lecture was given August 1st 2015. See Age and Reason Seminar Adelaide for details.

Bishop James Ussher was the Irish Archbishop of Armagh and primate of all Ireland. He excelled in education, was fluent in Arabic and Hebrew. In 1654, after an exhaustive investigation, he published his date for the Creation of the Universe – 4004 B.C..When Ussher published this Creation date it was believed. There was nothing remarkable about that. If you add up the genealogies in the Bible, and with a bit of historical knowledge, you can easily get a time since the beginning of the world of around 6000 years. It was believed that God created the world as He said in Scripture about 4000 years before Christ. For roughly 18 centuries of the Christian era such a time period was widely believed.

In the 17th century Sir Francis Bacon developed the ideas of the modern scientific method – scientific empiricism—where one developed a thesis and did experiments to test it. Bacon has been called the ‘father of the scientific method.’

Middle ages onAnd it was from the Middle Ages science was nurtured in the Christian universities of Europe and flourished after that, from the Reformation on, underpinned by the rich Christian worldview that held that the Universe was created by a rational trustworthy God, and the unchanging laws of nature are His creation.

Two challenges to the infallibility of the Holy Scriptures

Figure 3: Charles Darwin developed the idea of the general theory of evolution, which Smolin has copied by analogy.
Charles Darwin developed the idea of the general theory of evolution.

Charles Darwin published his “On Origin of Species” in 1859, which began a major attack on the veracity of the Word of God. Darwin’s message essentially was an attack on the true history in Genesis, even the actual historicity of the Genesis account of creation and the events that followed shortly thereafter. That ultimately means it was a challenge to the trustworthiness of the Bible.  Since that time we have seen a rapid decline of faith in the veracity and authority of God’s Word, starting with Genesis. The visible church has fallen in great apostasy.

Here when I write of God’s Words and their veracity and infallibility I refer to the God breathed Words in the original autographs, which for the New Testament were largely written in the ancient Greek vernacular.

Bishop Brooke Foss Westcott and Professor Fenton John Anthony Hort were conservative, Anglican (Church of England), scholars who produced a new Greek New Testament based on the Alexandrian codices (uncial books), mostly Vaticanus B and Sinaiticus ℵ (Aleph), which are believed by many to be among the oldest extant Greek texts. But age does not guarantee purity of a form closest to the original.

AntiChrist Pope denies the Word of God

Last year (2014) the pope stood before the Church of Rome’s Pontifical Academy of Sciences and declared that the Creator God  the Almighty Jehovah used evolution to create all living organisms on Earth.  Francis’ reasoning was along the lines that God is not omnipotent and could not create anything that He might like to and so He had to use evolution (a very wasteful process) to develop life on our planet.  God also used the big bang apparently to create the Universe because He was not powerful enough to do it by himself.

One online news source headlined it with “Pope Francis declares evolution and Big Bang theory are real and God is not ‘a magician with a magic wand’ .” So Francis does not believe the plain reading of the biblical text. That means he denies the truth of Scripture. He denies the plain statements of the Lord Jesus Christ who said:

“But from the beginning of the creation God made them male and female.” (Mark 10:6)

From a Christian to a disciple of Jesus Christ

I tell more of my story of how I continued to seek the Lord and of my journey around Australia, in 1974, which led me out of the Roman Catholic Church. I sought for the baptism and power of the Holy Spirit because I desired to be a witness for my Lord. I outline my meeting with other Christians and the Children of God and finally my infilling of the Holy Spirit. This involved my commitment to the Lord to forsake all else to serve Him and Him alone. All the glory to God.

Lucifer and Masonic doctrine

Who do you know who is a member of the Freemasons? Some claim Billy Graham is a 33rd Degree Mason. Certainly, there is a lot of mystery about who’s a Mason and what their beliefs are. Their society is based on utter secrecy so that comes as no surprise.

According to this list the following are but a few who were 33rd Degree: Buzz Aldrin (second man on the moon with Neil Armstrong), PLO leader Yasser Arafat (Muslim), UK Prime Minister Tony Blair, Rev. William Booth (Salvation Army), Werner von Braun (a Christian), President Jimmy Carter (a Christian), Sir Winston Churchill, Kenneth Copeland (a Christian), Walt. Disney, last leader of the Soviet Union Mikhail Gorbachev, US Vice President Al Gore, Rev. Billy Graham (a Christian evangelist), Iraqi President Saddam Hussein, Rev. Jesse Jackson (a Christian), Vladimir Lenin, Gen. Douglas MacArthur, Karl Marx, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, US President Ronald Reagan, Chancellor of Germany Gerhard Schroeder, Rev. Robert Schuller (a Christian), Rev. Al Sharpton (a Christian), the first President of Israel Chaim Weizmann, H.G. Wells (science fiction author and atheist), William Wynn Westcott (occultist, founding member of the occult Order of the Golden Dawn).  Some say that only 2 US presidents were not Masons, or associated with affiliate bodies. They are Abraham Lincoln and John F. Kennedy. But according to one blogger none after Gerald Ford were.1  He disputes that George Bush was. Another claims that there is no direct evidence that Barack Obama is a Freemason.2 Then according to this list there are those of British Royalty, Prince Phillip; of the Roman Catholic Church, Father Francisco Calvo, Jesuit Catholic priest who started Freemasonry in Costa Rica; Joseph Smith, founder of the cultic Mormon church, Brigham Young, their 2nd leader; Louis Farrakhan (Muslim), leader of the Nation Of Islam; and Geoffrey Fisher (Anglican), the Archbishop of Canterbury 1945-1961. But the US 6th president famously said

“Freemasonry is deceptive and fraudulent…Its promise is light—its performance is darkness” John Quincy Adams (a devout Christian)

Is Lucifer helping the Vatican astronomers look for extraterrestrials?

LUCIFER is an acronym for the instruments lengthy title, “Large Binocular Telescope Near-infrared Utility with Camera and Integral Field Unit for Extragalactic Research.”  Why would someone choose such a name? Even the acronym was crafted from only some of the letters of the words in the title above. They had to work at getting that name, like they really wanted to say something, or at least get our attention. Well, they have it now. The instrument called LUCIFER is attached to the University of Arizona’s Large Binocular Telescope (LBT) located on Mt. Graham in south-eastern Arizona. And the Vatican-owned Vatican Advanced Technology Telescope (VATT) is adjacent to it.

According to Tom Horn and Chris Putnam, the Vatican is awaiting an alien saviour. This is what they write in their book “Exo-Vaticana”, so says Ecumenical News.2

Horn said Brother Guy Consolmagno, who has also been called the papal astronomer, told the authors some astounding information. (emphasis added)

“He (the papal astronomer) says without apology that very soon the nations of the world are going to look to the aliens for their salvation”, said Horn.

From a saved Christian to disciple of Christ–my testimony Part II

Late in 1973 I finished my B.Sc. honours degree in physics at the University of Western Australia. After that I was not so sure what I should do. However, that summer (Nov-Dec 1973) I visited my Catholic girlfriend out in the country (which Australians call the Outback) on an aboriginal mission where she was working. I think she could not fully comprehend what was going on in my mind, though she was happy I was no longer an atheist but had become a Catholic. (We were engaged to be married when her service ended.) I grew to understand later that her service to God was some religious duty instilled in her by Catholic parents and the Roman Catholic Church, and not as a result of a new heart from a ‘rebirth in Christ’.

At that time, while working out there, I met a Christian guy who told me about David Wilkerson and his work amongst the New York gangs and drug addicts, where many were miraculously delivered from drug addiction and violence through Christ. David Wilkerson was (now gone on to be with the Lord) a born-again Christian pastor who trusted God for miracles to change the lives of many young people on drugs through the miraculous power of the Holy Spirit.
