“Be thou faithful unto death.”

The Lord calls his followers to be faithful unto death, to we die in His service, proclaiming and defending  the gospel.  How can we if we are so weak? But our God is faithful and He does it through us. All the glory to God!

I often get up in front of large audiences to speak on Creation/evolution issues, or on biblical creation and the origin of the universe, or on faults with atheistic or even theistic big bang thinking. I have been doing that in one form or another for 40 years now. But nearly every time before I get up to speak I am attacked by some spiritual forces trying to stop me doing it. Sometime this comes through my bodily weaknesses, and I feel sick, nauseated and sometimes even have had attacks like feeling feverish.

Remember Pilgrim’s Progress

Rosie 20. resizedOn March 23rd, 2001, the day before my birthday, I received the very bad news that our daughter Rosie (23 years old at the time) had died. Can you imagine what effect that had on me and my wife? It is almost impossible to put into words. On one level I could believe it to be true but on another I could not. Even now it is painful to write about.

People might ask why does God allow such things to happen to believers? We know these are trials in life that the Lord sends our way. And God’s ways are above ours. Who are we to judge Him?

He heals the broken hearted

I shared my salvation testimony via YouTube and several atheists mocked the fact that when I came to a dark place, due to trials and problems in life, the Lord reached down and chose me, and pulled me up out of the pit of despair.  God uses such trials in life to bring us unto Him. Specifically I remember all this confusion was in my head, like numbers swirling around, and the instant I called out “God, if you exist, help me!” all that stopped and I felt a still quiet presence in my soul.

Psalms 147:3  He healeth the broken in heart, and bindeth up their wounds.

The word translated “wounds” in Hebrew עַצֶּבֶת `atstsebeth can also be translated “pain” or “sorrow”. God is the only power in heaven and earth who can do this, eternally.

Beware of covetousness

Many English speakers today would not even know what covetousness means! It’s greed or lust, really. And lust means “an overmastering desire or craving.” So many problems in our society stem from this, especially those who aspire to wealth and fame by any means possible.

Then there are those who claim to be Christians, who promote the abundant life, wealth and prosperity doctrines. They say if you don’t have it, that is because you don’t believe it yourself. For example, the Word-Of-Faith preachers, like Kenneth Hagin, Kenneth Copeland, Benny Hinn, Paul and Jan Crouch, Andrew Wommack, Fred Price and many more. These pioneered the Word Of Faith movement out of the Pentecostal movement in the late 20th century. They started tele-evangelising people out of their money with promises of hundred fold increases if the poor would just send in their meager hard-earned cash as a “seed” that God could ostensibly grow. Who prospered?  The preachers did and still do. Only the preachers bank accounts grew, not those poor gullible believers’.

Troubled by unbelief

A story of a 1500-2000 year old Bible is doing the rounds on the internet in which it is claimed that Jesus was not crucified. Others claim it is a fake. Well, quite obviously it is.

Much to the dismay of the Vatican, an approx. 1500-2000 year old bible was found in Turkey, in the Ethnography Museum of Ankara.

Found in Turkey, claims Jesus was not crucified and Paul was an imposter.  The book also claims that Jesus ascended to heaven alive, and that Judas Iscariot was crucified in his place. And it says Jesus foretold the coming of Muhammad. Hmmm! Sounds like Islamic doctrine. The book may be real enough, i.e. it exists in the present, but it contains a fake story, just what the Islamic mullahs have claimed for a long time, since the 7th century.
