Torben Søndergaard and The Last Reformation

I was asked to have a look at this healing video called The Last Reformation, wherein a preacher from Denmark, Torben Søndergaard, showcases his relatively new, now worldwide, healing ministry.

Now don’t get me wrong, I believe that all the gifts of the Holy Spirit are still in operation, including the gift of healing. I am no cessationist. I have personally experienced my own very dramatic baptism of the Holy Spirit, but more than one year after my salvation. I believe that according to the scriptures God gives the gifts of the Spirit according to His sovereign will to whom He will and when He chooses.

After some study of Søndergaard and his Last Reformation group, I have to say that this is yet another false cult. But please study for yourself and make up your own mind! You should watch the YouTube film of Liz the Reiki healer’s testimony put out by Søndergaard and read this analysis of his theology. It sounds like and smell very cultic.

Torben Søndergaard teaches that Salvation is evidenced by the Baptism of the Holy Spirit, which comes through/by baptism in water and his proof of the in filling of the Holy Spirit is the speaking in tongues. He says that only after you are filled up with the Holy Spirit (indicates with his hand, raising it up to his mouth) the tongues comes out of your mouth. This to him is proof. He teaches that only by water baptism can you be saved, that before the baptism you are dead flesh and after baptism your sins are washed away and you are born again. This is definitely a false gospel. What about the poor thief on the cross (Luke 23:32-43), who was dying next to Jesus, to whom Jesus said that because of the thief’s faith he would see Him that day in paradise. There was no water there!

Belief in God Biblical doctrines

Weak in faith?

So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God. Romans 10:17 KJVER

glasses_on_bible_smWeak faith arises from a defect in our knowledge of God’s word. Many of the Lord’s people have an imperfect acquaintance with the gospel. They know but little of God’s real character, or of the nature and design of the Saviour’s work, or of what really constitutes Christian salvation, because they have not studied God’s word. Consequently they are full of fears, and are often assailed with doubts, whereas if well informed in the Scriptures, they would be rejoicing in hope of the glory of God. They think they must do something, besides believing in Christ, in order to gain acceptance with God; or they must feel something, more than they have, before they are entitled to peace with God. Such do not perceive that they are putting what they do or what they feel in the place of Christ; or they are adding these things to Christ, as if He alone were not sufficient. They are doing what the Galatians did, who made circumcision necessary to salvation; and to whom Paul said, “Christ is become of no effect unto you, whosoever of you are justified by the law, ye are fallen from grace.” Beloved, grace alone must form the ground of our acceptance with God. Works only follow as the fruit of faith and grace.

Blest soul that can say, “Christ only I seek!”
Wait for Him alway, be constant though weak;
The Lord whom thou servest, will not tarry long,
To Him e’en the weakest is dear as the strong.
