The United States Congress House of Representatives has passed a Bill H.R. 6090 the “Antisemitism Awareness Act”, with a 320-91 majority, to outlaw the expression of antisemitism. That might seem all well and good but the definition of antisemitism would also include reading any section of the Bible that speaks about how Jesus was killed by the Jews, as found in the New Testament.
As Representative Matt Gaetz wrote on X.com it would mean the preaching of the gospel would be outlawed. Any portions of the New Testament that gives the known history of how Jesus was tried and crucified at the hands of the Jewish Sanhedrin would be made illegal.
There is an enormous body of scripture that describes Christ trial and crucifixion at the hands of the Sanhedrin and the Romans. Here is a small sample.
18 Therefore the Jews sought the more to kill him, because He not only had broken the sabbath, but said also that God was His Father, making Himself equal with God.
John 5:18
3 Then assembled together the chief priests, and the scribes, and the elders of the people, to the palace of the high priest, who was called Caiaphas, 4 And consulted that they might take Jesus by subtlety, and kill him.
Matthew 26:3-4
These were all Jews led by the high priest at that time. They could not kill Jesus themselves, so they used the Romans to carry out their sentence against Jesus, whom they condemned as a common criminal.
22 Pilate said to them, What shall I do then with Jesus which is called Christ? They all say to him, Let him be crucified. 23 And the governor said, Why, what evil has he done? But they cried out the more, saying, Let him be crucified. 24 When Pilate saw that he could prevail nothing, but that rather a tumult was made, he took water, and washed his hands before the multitude, saying, I am innocent of the blood of this just person: see you to it. 25 Then answered all the people [Jews], and said, His blood be on us, and on our children.
Matthew 27:22-25
The crowd were Jews who said “His blood be on us, and on our children,” meaning the following generations of Jews. The crowd demanded the crucifixion of Jesus Christ. Thus what they said is a declaration of guilt and responsibility, taking the blame for the death of Jesus upon themselves and their future generations.
The Apostle Peter said at that time:
10 Be it known to you all, and to all the people of Israel, that by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom you crucified, whom God raised from the dead, even by him does this man stand here before you whole.
Acts 4:10
