At this time we cerebrate the birth of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. However it is worth remembering what He did as a human being. Yes, as a human being. He was God, or, I should more correctly write, He is God. Yet He was born into human flesh as fully human also. The God man!
5 Wherefore when He comes into the world, He says, Sacrifice and offering You would [desired] not, but a body have You prepared Me:
Hebrews 10:5
Jesus of Nazareth was born into this world with a human body. As God He preexisted everything, but He descended to the lower estate of humanity at His birth. Into human flesh.
And we know that God has made us His friends. He chose us. We did not choose Him. He gave His life as a human for us. That is love. Greater love. Greater than anything else. He died for your sins, but not only yours, everyone else who loves Him.
13 Greater love has no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends. 14 You are my friends, if you do whatever I command you.
John 15:13-14
He only asks that we do whatever He commands. He commands we love. The Scriptures tell us how.
9 Let love be without dissimulation [hypocrisy]. Abhor that which is evil; hold to that which is good. 10 Be kindly affectionate one to another with brotherly love; in honor preferring one another; 11 Not slothful in business [lazy]; fervent in spirit; serving the Lord; 12 Rejoicing in hope; patient in tribulation; continuing instant in prayer; 13 Distributing to the necessity [needs] of saints; given to hospitality. 14 Bless them which persecute you: bless, and curse not. 15 Rejoice with them that do rejoice, and weep with them that weep. 16 Be of the same mind one toward another. Mind not high things, but condescend to men of low estate. Be not wise in your own conceits [opinions]. 17 Recompense to no man evil for evil. Provide things honest in the sight of all men. 18 If it be possible, as much as lies in you, live peaceably with all men.
Romans 12:9-18
There is a challenge for you. Me too.
Never give up! Never give in! Keep sharing the good news with your neighbours and friends.
Where there is life there is hope! I know that is often said but I personally have experienced that.
About 3 months ago I received a phone call from my 92-year-old mother. She said ‘I get it!’ What she meant was that she now understood what I had been sharing with her for the past 50 years. She understood what forgiveness is and that Jesus paid it all.
This was only by revelation, not by learned knowledge. She had been given the grace to know Christ. She said now all those Bible stories she had been taught as a child made sense.
She is born again!
Now she witnesses this to everyone. That reminds me of my own salvation experience 50 years ago, when I could not keep my mouth closed, trying to explain to people the love of God, and His forgiveness for our sin.
16 Hereby perceive we the love of God, because He laid down His life for us: and we ought to lay down our lives for the brethren.
1 John 3:16
