Some people say that the God of Judaism is the same God that followers of Jesus worship. So Jews and Christians should get along. But is this true? We should look at what the scriptures say to answer this question.

I do not like the word ‘Christian’ for several reasons. One is that in these times someone who identifies as a Christian may also claim be an atheist, or at least an agnostic. Then there are those Christians who deny God’s word, and those who are really religious but have no love and trust in Jesus Christ.

Secondly the followers of Christ, as recorded in the scriptures, were truly on fire for the Lord. It was the apostles like Saul and Barnabas who were first called Christians in Antioch (Asia Minor, now modern day Turkey). And Christians Should Follow the Teachings of Christ. The true believers…

26 … assembled themselves with the ekklesia [the called out assembly], … And the disciples were called Christians first in Antioch.

Acts 11:26

Who the Christians in the above reference really are is important when answering the issue at hand. Are the followers of Christ and followers of Judaism worshiping the same God?

Let’s look at the relationship the Son has to His Father.

19 Then Jesus answered and said to them, Truly, truly, I say to you, The Son is not able to do anything from Himself, except what He may see the Father doing; for whatever that One does, these things also the Son does likewise.

20 For the Father loves the Son and shows to Him all things which He does. And He will show Him greater works than these in order that you may wonder.

21 For even as the Father raises the dead, and makes alive, so also the Son makes alive whom He wills.

22 For the Father judges no one, but has given all judgment to the Son, 23 so that all may honor the Son, even as they honor the Father. The one not honoring the Son does not honor the Father who has sent Him.

24 Truly, truly, I say to you, The one who hears My Word, and believing the One having sent Me, has everlasting life, and does not come into judgment, but has passed out of death into life.

John 5:19-24 KJ3 (my emphases added)

God is One. Jesus Christ, the Son and the Father and the Holy Spirit are One. The Son cannot do anything without the Father. The Father shows the Son everything He does.

All judgment is passed to the Son. As a result those who do not honor the Father do not honor the Son. Do orthodox Jews honor the Son? No, they don’t.

When I visited the nation of Israel in 2016 I learned about the hated Jews have for Jesus. They say that worshiping Christ is idolatry, because Christ took on human flesh. This is mentioned in Hebrews 10:5, which quotes Psalm 40:6, saying, “You have prepared a body for me.” This body was prepared by God for Christ to come and offer Himself as a sacrifice, fulfilling God’s will and replacing the animal sacrifices of the old covenant with the new covenant in His blood. But also as believers in Christ we are His body (symbolically) and He is in us.

Many Jews are atheists and most Jews hate Jesus, or Yeshua in Hebrew. The Talmud states some horrible stuff about Him and His mother. I learned that the unsaved Jews call Him ‘Yeshu’, recognising Him as an historical figure, but using His name as a curse word.

I believe the crux of the issue here is expressed in John 5:24. Everlasting life comes by way of not only believing in the Son but believing in the Father who sent the Son to pay for our sin. Therefore one cannot know the Father without knowing the Son and visa versa.

28 Therefore Jesus said to them, When you lift up the Son of Man, then you will know that I AM; and from Myself I do nothing; but as My Father taught Me, these things I speak.

John 8:28 KJ3

Jesus said that He is Yahweh, the Creator. He stated that He is I AM, the eternally existing God. He does nothing without the Father who taught Him all things.

42 Therefore Jesus said to them, If God were your Father, you would love Me, for I went forth and have come from God. For I have not come from Myself, but that One sent Me. …

47 The one who is of God hears the words of God; for this reason you do not hear, because you are not of God.

John 8:42, 47 KJ3

Jesus was speaking to the Jewish leaders when He said these things. They were the religious ones. Nothing has changed today.

They do not know the Father because they do not know the Son. So the answer to the headline question is NO. The god of the religious orthodox Jews is not the same God that followers of Christ worship. Jesus said of them:

44 You are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father you will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and stayed not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaks a lie, he speaks of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it.

John 8:44

There you have it! Satan is the god of the religious orthodox Jews.
