Israel has become an occupying force not only in Gaza but also in the occupied West Bank, both of which the UN declared as belonging to the future state of Palestine. The Israeli state is an occupying force in a land that was largely occupied by Palestinian Arabs until the Nakba in 1948 when the occupying force expelled some 700 thousand Palestinians from their homeland.

The ICJ Just Demolished One of Israel’s Key Defenses of the Occupation

The International Court of Justice in The Hague did not leave any stone unturned in finding that Israel’s annexationist policies, dispossessing Palestinians, violate key principles of international law.

When he was Israel’s Attorney General, Meir Shamgar (who later became President of Israel’s Supreme Court) said that the occupation is a “factual situation” which, pending a political or military alternative, could, from a legal point of view, “continue indefinitely.” On Friday, the International Court of Justice in The Hague comprehensively demolished his argument and with it one of Israel’s key, longstanding defenses of its occupation.

The ICJ’s advisory opinion on Israel’s occupation of the area known in international law as the “Occupied Palestinian Territory” holds that while there is no time limit on occupation, it can not be an indefinite form of control: it must be temporary. Occupation, emphasized the Court, is a temporary situation to respond to a military necessity, and it cannot transfer the title of sovereignty to the occupying state. Moreover, the occupying state is duty-bound to administer the territory for the benefit of the local population.

And to all my friends who tell me that there never was a land called Palestine I say the National Geographic Magazine begs to differ. In 1947, before the state of Israel was declared in 1948, they published the following map of Palestine.

Facts are facts, and this is one undeniable fact.

The whole world is being assaulted right now by a propaganda campaign that argues that the current political state of Israel has a right to repossess the land of Palestine because 2000 years ago they were dispossessed of their ancestral homeland. But most of the nations of the world are not buying it.

And Israel protests against the ICJ ruling.

‘The Jewish people are not occupiers in their own land’ – Israel blasts ICJ ruling declaring Jewish settlements in Judea and Samaria illegal

“The Jewish people are not occupiers in their own land, including in our eternal capital Jerusalem nor in Judea and Samaria, our historical homeland,” Netanyahu said. ‘No absurd opinion in The Hague can deny this historical truth or the legal right of Israelis to live in their own communities in our ancestral home,’ says Netanyahu

The history of the world has had many colonising forces occupy other countries and lands, even whole continents. But where do we see military force being used right now against almost defenceless civilian populations to ‘take back’ land they claim was once theirs?

We see it in Palestine. The occupying force is largely Ashkenazi Jews, white Europeans, from the former Soviet countries including East Germany, Poland, and Russia.

Since we know there is no Jewish gene and genetic studies show little connection to Middle Eastern Sephardic Jews there can be no historical claim through genealogy. What about a religious claim as followers of Yahweh? Most are not believers in the Lord God Yahweh; in fact they are largely atheists. Then all that is left is their political assertion of ownership.

Then how can they be Israelis if they have no ancestral connection other than a unprovable claim? How can they claim a divine right to the land when they reject the God whom they claim gave them the land?

However, there is a connection to modern day Israel, in fact, modern day Jerusalem, with events described in the last book of the Bible.

7 And when they shall have finished their testimony, the beast that ascends out of the bottomless pit shall make war against them, and shall overcome them, and kill them.
8 And their dead bodies shall lie in the street of the great city, which spiritually is called Sodom and Egypt, where also our Lord was crucified.

Revelation 11:7-8

The beast who descends out of the bottomless pit, the abyss, is Satan. He has been given authority by God to make war against God’s people, even to the point of killing them.

Who are God’s people? They are the believers in Jesus Christ, both Jewish believers and Gentile believers. It is obvious for the war described in verse 7 to happen those believers must be visibly preaching the truth of the Lord. Read the whole chapter 11.

The revelation that the Apostle John received from Jesus Christ is very striking in that it specifies the city where Christ was crucified. That city can only be Jerusalem. That is an historical fact also. Yet that city is spiritually called Sodom and Egypt.

Ancient Egypt was once an occupying force that ruled the world. It was filled with demonic spirits and Satan worship. In fact, ancient Egyptians worshipped over 2,000 deities, with many having complex characteristics and roles. Here are some of their most significant gods:

  • Ra: God of the sun, creation, and life. Often depicted as a man with a falcon head, wearing a sun disk on his head.
  • Osiris: God of the afterlife, resurrection, and fertility. Associated with the pharaohs and the concept of eternal life.
  • Horus: God of goodness, light, and kingship. Often depicted as a falcon or a man with a falcon head.
  • Isis: Goddess of motherhood, magic, and fertility. Associated with protection, healing, and wisdom.

These were demons and the top dog would have been Satan himself.

So Christ is telling us that Jerusalem at the end, when final judgement comes to the world, is occupied by demons.

He also says that Jerusalem has become Sodom. This is easily seen in the city of Tel Aviv, which is now the homosexual pride capital of the world, surpassing San Francisco even.

Perhaps the spiritual connection between Sodom and Jerusalem is in the actions of the Israeli government leadership?

Before God destroyed old Sodom, Abraham pleaded with God to not destroy the city because some innocent ones may be killed along with the guilty.

32 Then [Abraham] said, “Oh let not the Lord be angry, and I will speak again but this once. Suppose ten are found there.” He answered, “For the sake of ten I will not destroy it.”

Genesis 18:32 ESV

If only 10 righteous souls were in the city God would have held back His judgment on Sodom. Thus we can conclude Sodom characterises a city without any moral value. In the same way, Jerusalem has become a city without any moral value. In this context it applies definitely to those who are the ruling powers, whom Christ called the synagogue of Satan.

One more point is made by the Apostle Paul

22 For it is written, Abraham had two sons, one out of the slave woman and one
out of the free woman. 23 But, indeed, the one of the slave woman has been born according to flesh, and the one out of the free woman through the promise, 24 which things are being allegorized, for these are two covenants, one, indeed, from Mount Sinai bringing forth to slavery (which is Hagar, 25 for Hagar is Mount Sinai in Arabia and corresponds to the present Jerusalem, and she slaves with her children), 26 but the Jerusalem from above is free, who is the mother of us all;

Galatians 4:22-26 KJ3

This passage is telling us those who trust in Christ are the children of the promise. They are new Jerusalem, the spiritual kingdom of Christ. But a significant clue to understanding Revelation 11:8 is here also.

Those who claim a land right to possess Canaan (Palestine today) because of ancestral lineage, according to the flesh, are associated with Hagar from Arabia including Egypt, which corresponds to the present Jerusalem.

This Jerusalem is not to be confused with Jerusalem from above, which is the heavenly city described by the Apostle John as the bride of Christ.

2 And I John saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down from God out of heaven, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband.

Revelation 21:2

So if there are believers in Christ in Jerusalem and Israel, Jews who love the Lord Jesus, Christ says to them:

4 … Come out of her, My people, that you be not partakers of her sins, and that you receive not of her plagues.

Revelation 18:4

17 Why come out from among them, and be you separate, said the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing; and I will receive you.

2 Corinthians 6:17

One response to “Has Jerusalem Become as Sodom and Egypt?”

  1. Thanks for this exposition John. True Christians must value all people of whatever race or religion equally and impartially, yes including Palestinians. That is because we are not God and do not know who is chosen and who is not, and if we mistreat them, we may be mistreating Christ.

Some may say “It is okay to mistreat Muslim Palestinians, they are the enemy”.

But it is not okay! Those you are mistreating may be chosen – they may come to Christ on their deathbed for example.

Certainly, Christians will not help win Palestinians to Christ by supporting the bombing of them. The history of modern Israel is a shameful history of mistreatment of Palestinians, and no Christian should support that history. Also, they should do whatever they can to help free the Palestinians from this continuing oppression.

Thanks again for not supporting the shameful behaviour of many so called ‘Christians’ who have shown extreme partiality towards Israel and against the indigenous people of Palestine.
