Observational data and a novel climate sensitivity model, based on well-established physics, show that the recent observed global warming trend is totally attributable to a decrease in reflectivity of sunlight from global cloud cover, and, to a much lesser extent, a recent increase in total solar irradiance. That means it is not controlled by human carbon dioxide emissions.
Who would have thought that the intensity of the sun’s radiation and the Earth’s cloud cover, reflecting sunlight back into space, could affect the global temperature? It seems to be the obvious place to look first, but the Climate Cult didn’t.
According to the UN Climate Cult especially the science-by-consensus IPCC crowd the global surface temperature of planet Earth is controlled by the concentration of carbon dioxide gas in the atmosphere. The Climate Cult puts it all down to a greenhouse effect controlled by CO2. See image below.

The claim that the sun’s radiation absorbed by the surface of the Earth then re-emitted as infrared radiation but trapped by the greenhouse gas molecules, i.e. carbon dioxide, is totally wrong. Dr Nikolov is a physicist working for the US Forest Service. He put in his own time to research and publish a peer-reviewed paper showing that the Earth’s Global Surface Air Temperature (GSAT) is controlled by two factors:
- the Total Solar Irradiance (TSI) at the Top-of-the-Atmosphere (TOA), that is the sun’s radiation reaching the Earth, and
- the reflectivity at the Top-of-the-Atmosphere (TOA) of the whole planet (known as albedo) resulting from cloud cover.
I have used their acronyms in case you want to read their paper. The research, published by Ned Nikolov and Karl F. Zeller (Geomatics 2024, 4(3), 311-341), Roles of Earth’s Albedo Variations and Top-of-the-Atmosphere Energy Imbalance in Recent Warming: New Insights from Satellite and Surface Observations, throws a spanner in amongst the proverbial monkeys. Our analysis revealed that the observed decrease of planetary albedo along with reported variations of the Total Solar Irradiance (TSI) explain 100% of the global warming trend and 83% of the GSAT interannual variability as documented by six satellite- and ground-based monitoring systems over the past 24 years.
Over the past 20 years there has been observed a decrease of Earth’s albedo (reflectivity of sunlight at the top of the atmosphere) which has meant an increase of absorbed shortwave radiation by the planet. That is, a decrease in reflectivity means more radiation getting through to the surface. This fact has not been taken into account as a contributor to the recent warming by the IPCC.
In their research the authors, Nikolov and Zeller, developed a new physical climate sensitivity model using the known laws of physics, including the Stefan-Boltzmann radiation law, which helped them analyse “the physical nature of the Earth’s Energy Imbalance (EEI) calculated as a difference between absorbed shortwave [from the sun] and outgoing longwave radiation [infrared] at the top of the atmosphere.“
From their mathematical model and observational measurements from the Clouds and the Earth’s Radiant Energy System (CERES) project they were able to calculate that the recent warming is 84.9% due to decrease albedo (cloud reflectivity), hence the absorbed solar flux by the Earth, and, 15.1% due to the increase in Total Solar Irradiance (TSI). The effect of the cloud cover controlling the absorbed solar radiation is 5.6 times the effect of changes in the sun’s radiant intensity.
The Earth’s cloud cover has been observed to have been decreasing since 2000, which may be due to changes in space weather conditions, including galactic cosmic rays, solar interplanetary magnetic fields, and the solar wind interacting with the Earth’s global electric circuit, but not changes in carbon dioxide in the atmosphere.
This new paper describes the first time any study has quantified the amount of warming attributable to solar forcing alone, i.e., the increase of Global Surface Air Temperature (GSAT) due to Earth’s decreasing albedo combined with a varying Total Solar Irradiance (TSI).
And the authors found that dissipation of
… thermal kinetic energy in ascending air parcels gives rise to an apparent [Earth Energy Imbalance], which does not represent “heat trapping” by increasing atmospheric greenhouse gases as currently assumed.
The mechanism they found is opposite to the standard claim — the primary assumption — of the Climate Cult.
Put plainly, using observational data and a robust model for the planet the new research shows that the recent global warming trend can be wholly attributed to increased absorbed solar radiation due to cloud cover decrease and to a lesser extent an increase in the intensity of the sun’s radiation at the top of the atmosphere.
Who would have thought that the sun’s radiation, and space weather, controlling global cloud cover, could control the Earth’s global surface temperature? Not the Climate Cult who all dutifully follow the ‘consensus’ party line. It sure isn’t due to the demonised carbon dioxide molecules, which are in fact an essential ingredient for life.
