Greater Israel is the concept getting some air time now in the media. The idea is derived from God’s promise to Abram (before God changed his name to Abraham) about three thousand years ago:

18 In the same day the LORD made a covenant with Abram, saying, To your seed have I given this land, from the [Nile] river of Egypt to the great river, the river Euphrates:

Genesis 15:18 AKJV

The Bible describes an area from the Euphrates river to the Nile river and includes the lands of the following tribes

19 The Kenites, and the Kenizzites, and the Kadmonites,
20 And the Hittites, and the Perizzites, and the Rephaims,
21 And the Amorites, and the Canaanites, and the Girgashites, and the Jebusites.

Genesis 15:19-21 AKJV

But because the promise includes Abraham’s offspring it should include the land given to all of the children of Abram (Abraham), which includes Ishmael, Zimran, Jokshan, Midian, and others. The latter became Arab nations, who are also true Semites.

Current Israel’s Military Strategy

Is this then related to the current military strategy of Israel? To expand into the neighbouring countries to take control of, by force, all these countries shown in the map above? Those countries represent the regions that were once occupied by other people groups.

Is it a valid claim? To take other peoples’ lands because you believe that God once gave you their land? And that it still applies even if you disobeyed Jehovah and rebelled against Him? And even if your ancestors were driven from the land two thousand years ago because of their rejection of His Son, Jesus Christ, how is your land claim still valid?

According to the Jerusalem Post Lebanon is suggested to be part of the Promised Land given to Israel. Actually the promise was to Abraham and his descendants. The following shows some screen shots taken from the JP news article before it was taken down. Apparently the article was only live for a few hours.

See https://www.jpost.com/judaism/article-821680

This begs the question, what is Israel really doing with all these wars? Apparently, as shown below, the Greater Israel region is shown on a badge on some IDF military uniforms.

This Greater Israel concept is supported by this IDF army officer, who said:

“…the land is OURS. The whole country! All of it! Including Gaza! Including Lebanon! The whole promised land!”

Now have a look at this, about Noem, The Line, the 15-minute city in Saudi Arabia. It’s being built by Saudi Arabian oil money.

This looks like a plan to build a giant wall across the desert and slice Saudi Arabia in two. Is it a plan to create a border for Greater Israel?

You can already live there in the city in desert.

Does this mean there will be a wider regional war for Israel/US to achieve this purpose? To expand control over all these neighbouring countries will cost a lot of blood. You be the judge.

This is the word of the LORD [Jehovah] to Zerubbabel, saying, Not by might, nor by power, but by my Spirit, said the LORD of hosts.

Zechariah 4:6 AKJV

Military might and genocidal power over other peoples and tribes is not God’s way. Not since Jesus came to Earth and showed us His way of love and compassion.

To the Jewish leader at the time, the prophet Zechariah spoke God’s words. Israel rarely ever listened to the Lord God as spoken through His prophets. And it certainly is not listening now.

Israeli Finance Minister Smotrich hints at ‘Greater Israel’ project

“Israel’s” Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich has sparked controversy with remarks suggesting his vision for an expanded “Jewish state” that could extend beyond Palestinian territories and into neighboring countries, including Syria.

The comments were made during an interview for a French-language documentary, “Israel: Extremists in Power”, aired by Arte.

Smotrich expressed his desire for a “Jewish state” governed by “the values of the Jewish people,” and when asked whether “Israel” aims to extend its current sovereignty—which stretches from the Mediterranean Sea to the Jordan River—he responded with a smile, saying, “okay, bit by bit.”

In a provocative statement, Israeli Finance Minister Smotrich referred to religious texts claiming that the future of occupied Al-Quds involves expansion “to Damascus.”

This aligns with a broader vision supported by Israelis who advocate for “Israel’s” territorial expansion into neighboring Arab states, including Jordan, Lebanon, Egypt, Iraq, and Saudi Arabia, as outlined in the documentary.

One response to “Greater Israel: Is Lebanon Part of the Promised Land?”

  1. Dr. Hartnett,

Not once in my 20 years of living and working in North Africa, the Middle East, and Israel have I heard even a hint that Greater Israel should extend east of the Jordan River, south or west into Sinai or beyond, or north to Lebanon or Syria. Not once. The incursion into Lebanon is clearly for defense, even as it was in 2006, 1987, and 1967.

Religious Jews await what they suppose to be the first coming of Messiah, whom we know to be King Jesus at His Second Advent; and they share the belief with Dispensational Christians that all bets are off as to how the Lord will reconfigure the Land during the thousand year reign of King Jesus…a belief you, of course, do not share.

Let’s not take the silly fringe notions of a few as representative of the leadership of Israel.

    Respectfully,

    Steve Mac
