Today is a sad day for Australia. Officially the Australian Online Safety Amendment (Social Media Minimum Age) Act 2024 came into operation today. It is ostensibly to protect children under 16 years old from online harms. All Australians are required to submit to identity checks to confirm they are over 16 years old to use the internet.
Of course this is government overreach, and the beginning of authoritarian rule over all speech that the government doesn’t like. But the government is exempt from the law they are imposing on the rest of us.
I will not provide a government ID, digital or otherwise, nor will I agree to biometric scanning. So I expect to be kicked off my social media soon.
So far today I still have access to my X, Telegram and YouTube accounts. But I don’t know for how much longer. We will be subject to random spot checks.

Alex Jones is correct. Things will heat up on December 27 when under-18 age verification and mandatory age verification for all adults is required.

Update December 12, 2025
Looks like the ban has failed alreadyt, only 2 days after implementation.
Thousands of U16’s took to social media to troll the Australian PM TikTok account having clearly found a way to circumvent the ban.
