The sphericity of the heavenly body we call home is a design feature. Though many in Australia might believe they live in the middle of the world, every point on a sphere is of equal value. There is no centre on the surface, no special location. This is where physics meets geopolitics.

There are those who believe they have special privileges because they live in a small strip of land in the Middle East. They believe that they have divine privilege because of the location. To them it is the middle of the world and they believe that they are destined to rule the whole world.

But there is no privileged location on a sphere.1

Just imagine if the Earth was a flat disk, there would be a centre which nations would fight over to control because it would be the most special place at the centre of the world.

On this artist Flat Earth illustration it looks like it should be Greenland (or somewhere near, at the North Pole) that is at the centre of the world. But that cannot be true because no one is fighting to control that land.

All nations and peoples are equal in the eyes of the Creator though some think they are more equal than others. All humans are created in the image of the Creator. All have equal worth in His eyes.

The Creator once chose one tribe, He called Israel, from all nations on the sphere to see if He could teach them to be a shining light to spread His love to the world. But they continually rejected Him and His message.

The Creator sent His prophet Isaiah with His message to warn those people.

21 Have you not known? Have you not heard? Was it not told to you from the beginning? Did you not discern from the foundations of the earth?
22 He abiding over the circle [Hebrew: חוּג chug] of the earth sees and ones living in it are like grasshoppers; He who stretches the heavens like a curtain, and spreads them like a tent to live in;
23 who gives [brings] potentates into nothing. He makes judges of the earth as nothing.
24 Yea, they shall not be planted; yea, they are not sown; yea, their stem is not taking root in the earth. And He also blows on them, and they shall wither, and the tempest shall lift them up like stubble.

Isaiah 40:21-24 KJ3

From the beginning of creation, the Creator, who lives outside of this earthly plane, sees the inhabitants of the world metaphorically as grasshoppers.

In verse 22 He used the Hebrew word חוּג chug, translated ‘circle’, which the Flat Earthers claim is proof of the disk geometry but the meaning includes ‘compass’, which proscribes a sphere via the lines of longitude. Therefore the meaning here is that there is no special place on the sphere.

The following verses 23-24 show us the context. The Creator brings them to nothing, those who set themselves up as judges and rulers of the earth.

Here verse 24 is critical. Again a metaphor is used. Before their stem has taken root in the earth God blows on them and they are scattered and decimated like the stubble carried off in a storm. That happened to that tribe after 70 AD; they were scattered throughout the Earth.

Because that tribe failed to spread God’s love to the world, around the whole sphere, God sent His Son in Jesus of Nazareth, the Christ, to make a pathway for all nations to receive His love.

13 Go in through the narrow gate; for wide is the gate and broad is the way that
leads away to destruction, and many are the ones entering in through it.
14 For narrow is the gate, and constricted is the way that leads away into life, and few are the ones finding it.

Matthew 7:13-14 KJ3

Though the way is not easy, the pathway is narrow and dangerous, it is open to all regardless of where you were born on the sphere. Unfortunately few find the way.

The Creator finally proclaimed His good news through Jesus Christ who walked with men 2000 years ago. That revelation was there in the teachings of the prophets but now is made plain to all nations of the world.

25 Now to Him that is of power to establish you according to my gospel, and the preaching of Jesus Christ, according to the revelation of the mystery, which was kept secret since the world began,
26 But now is made manifest [plain], and by the scriptures of the prophets, according to the commandment of the everlasting God, made known to all nations for the obedience of faith:
27 To God only wise, be glory through Jesus Christ for ever. Amen.

Romans 16:25-27 AKJV

Now to the people of God, no matter where they are located on the sphere, no matter which country they are from, God has prepared a heavenly home, which is not of this world.

15 And truly, if they had been mindful of that country from where they came out, they might have had opportunity to have returned.
16 But now they desire a better country, that is, an heavenly: why God is not ashamed to be called their God: for He has prepared for them a city.

Hebrews 11:15-16 AKJV

The Creator prepared a city, a heavenly city beyond the sphere of this planet. This city is God’s eternal creation. This means that those who trust in our Lord Jesus Christ are not of this earthly sphere, but they are citizens of His heavenly city.

Note

  1. For those who might raise the objection that there are two special locations on the rotating sphere, at the poles of the rotation axis, I note that no humans naturally chose to live there, either in the North or in the South. Only polar bears in the North and penguins in the South live there.
