The movie the Matrix is often quoted in respect to the world we live in. That implies that we are the creation of a software Simulation in some grand computer system. Therefore the world and all that we see around us, everything in this universe, is, in fact, an illusion.
Is there any truth to that?
From a theoretical and experimental physics perspective it is impossible to refute such an hypothesis.
Actually the subject matter here falls into the realm of philosophy, metaphysics, ontology and epistemology. But let me state from the start of this discussion, there is no experiment you could do to refute the claim that we are all the product of a simulation, like within the Matrix.
If we are living within the Matrix, obviously, any experiment or observation is within that same Simulation. Philosophically it is circular reasoning.
Only if there was someone outside the Simulation could they distinguish truth from fiction.
But how could that person tell us living within the Simulation that truth? They would need to send a message into this world from a hyper-dimension that is not part of this one, since it is a simulation.
Physically that is possible!
As an analogy consider a black hole. A black hole has the property of being a one-way communication device. Information only flows into the black hole across the event horizon. It does not flow out of the black hole across the event horizon. That is according to current thinking on gravitation theory, of course, still with the Simulation.
Now I am using that as a picture, not as a proof. There are no proofs anyway.
The One existing outside the Simulation must be the One who created the Simulation. Only within the Simulation do we have space and time.
Outside of the Matrix world there is no space or time. So even using the word ‘outside’ in the latter sentence is problematic. This is because we apparently live in space and time. Or we think we do.
What about all the galaxies we observe with our biggest telescopes? They appear to be real, that is, to really exist. But how could you know? You cannot go ‘out there’ and interact with them.
It is as if an impenetrable barrier is set between us, in this solar system, and the rest of the observable universe.
Therefore, all that astronomers and astrophysicists can do is collect stamps! I have been saying this for a long time and nothing has changed.
Well, … that is not totally true. What has changed is that the more observations are made of all different galaxies, quasars and extragalactic objects and as they are neatly categorised in the stamp collection, the more insane the conclusions become.
This is because humans have proposed models to the describe the structure and history of the universe and they have tested their models with their stamp collections. The more data that is gathered the more ludicrous the conclusions. See for example 20 Big Bang Busting Bloopers.
And as I have said before, the big bang origin of the universe hypothesis is pagan philosophy. See The Big Bang is Pagan Philosophy. Big bang philosophy is full of Big Bang Fudge Factors.
But let me state this clearly!
Within the solar system we operate spacecraft, which send signals back to Earth. Humans will never get beyond that. So for all intents and purposes we are restricted to this realm. There will never be a signal sent back from even the closest star system at 4.3 light-years distance in the Centauri system.
Therefore it is physically impossible to test the notion that anything beyond the edges of the solar system even exists. In fact, it would seem from our current physical theories that either it doesn’t exist and therefore is an illusion or we have utterly failed to understand the world around us.
For example, in order to get physical theories to agree with observations on every scale size in the universe fudge factors like Dark Matter and Dark Energy have had to be invented. Is Dark Matter the Unknown God?
Instead of listening to the communications from the One who created the Simulation, the majority of those in the Simulation have tried to explain it without the Creator’s involvement.
They have substituted their puny knowledge for the revealed truth supplied by the Creator.
Some argue that you cannot believe the message in the creation account of the Bible because it doesn’t jive with man’s knowledge. But where has that been shown to be true? No where!
The truth is that we do live in a Simulation!
The Simulation has rules though, just like in the movie the Matrix. Occasionally someone breaks those rules and we have what is called a glitch in the Matrix, the Simulation.
One such glitch would be if someone died and came back to life after being dead for an extended period of time, like after several days. This happened and is recorded in the New Testament when Jesus Christ died and rose again 3 days later.
Ok! You might say that that is just a story. Fair enough. No one can prove it. (It is impossible to prove any historical event because it is outside the realm of testable science.) But nor can anyone prove that they are not living in the Simulation.
It is more insane to believe that the universe created itself from nothing, or, that life spontaneously arose from pond scum, than to believe that we live in the Simulation created by a benevolent Self-Existent Being.
The Hebrew word for His name is Yahweh meaning “I AM”. He just IS! Never created, just exists. This is a way of saying He is the Creator of the Simulation.
1 In the beginning God [the Self-Existent One] created the heaven and the earth [the universe].
2 And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was on the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved on the face of the waters.
3 And God said, Let there be light: and there was light. 4 And God saw the light, that it was good: and God divided the light from the darkness. 5 And God called the light Day, and the darkness He called Night. And the evening and the morning were the first day.Genesis 1:1-3 AKJV
The Genesis account records the creation when the Self-Existent One spoke the Simulation into existence. For each of the 6 days of creation the record (Genesis chapter 1) states that ‘God said’.
The sentence ‘the Spirit of God moved on the face of the waters‘ is a way of saying that the Self-Existent One energised the world of the Simulation. That means He formed it into a logical ordered world where the laws of physics that we know apply. Electromagnetism, the strong and weak nuclear forces and gravitation were added to the Simulation.
Merely by speaking it He created the Simulation.
6 By the word of the LORD were the heavens made; and all the host of them by the breath of his mouth. … 9 For He spoke, and it was done; He commanded, and it stood fast.
Psalm 33:6, 9 AKJV
The scriptures speaks expressly of the Simulation using the Greek word αἰών ‘aion’ meaning an age (or eon); a period of existence, though not merely a period of time (there are ages after the Last Day). It implies a realm of existence. In old English this was described as ‘worlds’. It could have been written as the Simulation.
3 Through faith we understand that the worlds [aion, period of existence in the Simulation] were framed by the word of God, so that things which are seen were not made of things which do appear.
Hebrews 11:3 AKJV
Just like in the Matrix movie, things which are seen were not made of things which do appear. The world is a construct of the mind of the creator. That was part of the plot of the movie, but it is so in this existence within the Simulation.
This is reiterated in the New Testament through the use of the Greek word ‘logos’, translated ‘the Word’. The Word implies the One spoke our world into existence.
1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 The same was in the beginning with God. 3 All things were made by Him; and without Him was not any thing made that was made.
John 1:1-3 AKJV
The Word is the One who spoke the Simulation into existence. All things are sustained in the Self-Existent One.
This is further reinforced by the entry of the One into the world of the Simulation.
14 And the Word was made flesh, and dwelled among us, (and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.
John 1:14 AKJV
The One materialised into flesh, via a human body prepared for Him (Hebrews 10:5). Materialised here means appeared to take material substance within the Matrix like simulation world.
28 For in Him we live, and move, and have our being; as certain also of your own poets have said, For we are also His offspring.
Acts 17:28 AKJV
Our ‘existence’ is only in the Mind of the Creator. Thus in the Mind of the Self-Existent One is the realm of our existence.
Jesus Christ showed us the reality of the world outside the Simulation by entering the Simulation and manipulating and breaking the laws of physics in the Simulation. By dying and resurrecting within the Simulation the One showed us that we also are not bound to the world of the Simulation.
He gave us the opportunity to live outside the Simulation, in a realm that is beyond our wildest dreams.
At the court of judgment when Jesus was asked by the governor Pontius Pilot “What have you done?”,
36 Jesus answered, “My kingdom is not of this world [kosmos, the world we live in]. If My kingdom were of this world, then My servants would be fighting so that I would not be handed over to the Jews; but as it is, My kingdom is not of this realm [on this side].”
John 18:36 NASB1995
The first instance Jesus literally says that His kingdom is not derived from this universe, which we live in, or think we do, within the Simulation. The Greek word ‘kosmos’ is used, meaning an orderly arrangement. In the second instance Jesus literally says that His kingdom is not from here, not on this side of the Simulation.
His kingdom therefore is on the other side of the Simulation. The other side is outside of the 3 spatial plus time dimensions. His kingdom is Heaven. It is not within the Simulation.
How do you get out of the Simulation?
1 Truly, truly, I say to you, He that enters not by the door into the sheepfold, but climbs up some other way, the same is a thief and a robber. … 9 I am the door: by me if any man enter in, he shall be saved, and shall go in and out, and find pasture.
John 10:1, 9 AKJV
Jesus Christ is the Door, and the sheepfold is His kingdom of Heaven. There is no other way out of the Simulation but through the Door. All others who say they know the way are thieves and liars.
To leave a 3 dimensional realm you must become a 4 dimensional being. It would be a category error to say you can enter Heaven without that doorway into the higher dimension. Now I am saying even that higher dimensional illustration is not entirely correct. We must leave the Simulation and live outside of it.
Thus, only in the One who made the Simulation can we pass through the Door, and thereby leave the Simulation and find eternal life.
