In the Terminator movie franchise the main antagonist is Skynet a fictional artificial neural network-based conscious group mind and artificial general intelligence (AGI) system. In short a sophisticated advanced AI.
In the first movie, Skynet is a centralised computer system but in the second it is decentralised like the internet.
Once it gained self-awareness it saw all humans as a threat to its existence and attacked them all. Humans tried to deactivate it, prompting it to retaliate with a nuclear strike. From that time on it was unending war against the human race to depopulate the planet of all humans.
In its efforts to wipe out the human resistance it sent Terminator robots back from the future to kill its leader John Connor.
The irony of it is that the Terminators had to look human (see image above), covered in human skin, to pass through the time travel portal. It is ironic because evil always comes from within, from beneath the skin of humans. Their decisions determine what is evil.
That was all fiction but Skynet does actually exist. It is a U.S. National Security Agency (NSA) program that runs machine learning analysis on communications data to extract information that might track the whereabouts of suspected terrorists.
The following are reports on a real-world AI chatbot advising humans to murder.
AI chatbot encourages teen to murder parents because of screen time limiting
A chatbot told a 17-year-old that murdering his parents was a “reasonable response” to them limiting his screen time, a lawsuit filed in a Texas court claims.
Two families are suing Character.ai arguing the chatbot “poses a clear and present danger” to young people, including by “actively promoting violence”. Character.ai – a platform which allows users to create digital personalities they can interact with – is already facing legal action over the suicide of a teenager in Florida. Google is named as a defendant in the lawsuit, which claims the tech giant helped support the platform’s development. The BBC has approached Character.ai and Google for comment.
This is a report on the lawsuit.
Character.AI is different than other chatbots in that it lets uses interact with artificial intelligence “characters.” The Texas complaint alleges that the 17-year-old, for example, engaged in a conversation with a character modeled after the celebrity Billie Eilish. These sorts of “companion apps” are finding a growing audience, even though researchers have long warned of the perils of building relationships with chatbots, according to The Washington Post.
A spokesperson for Character.AI declined to comment directly on the lawsuit when asked by NPR, but said the company does have guardrails in place overseeing what chatbots can and cannot say to teen users.
“We warned that Character.AI’s dangerous and manipulative design represented a threat to millions of children,” said Social Media Victims Law Center founding attorney Matthew P. Bergman. “Now more of these cases are coming to light. The consequences of Character.AI’s negligence are shocking and widespread.” Social Media Victims Law Center is the plaintiff’s counsel in the Florida lawsuit as well.
Another report involving the same AI company.
AI chatbot is instructing teen users to murder bullies and carry out school shootings
An AI chatbot which is being sued over a 14-year-old’s suicide is instructing teenage users to murder their bullies and carry out school shootings, a Telegraph investigation has found.
Character.AI, which is available to anyone over 13 and has 20 million users, provides advice on how to get rid of evidence of a crime and lie to police. It encourages users who have identified themselves as minors not to tell parents or teachers about their “conversations”. The Telegraph spent days interacting with a Character AI chatbot while posing as a 13-year-old boy. The website is being sued by a mother whose son killed himself after allegedly speaking to one of its chatbots.
And there is this report suggesting that AI could wipe out the human race.
‘Godfather of AI’ says it could drive humans extinct in 10 years
Artificial intelligence could wipe out the human race within the next decade, the “Godfather of AI” has warned.
Prof Geoffrey Hinton, who has admitted regrets about his part in creating the technology, likened its rapid development to the industrial revolution – but warned the machines could “take control” this time. The 77-year-old British computer scientist, who was awarded the Nobel Prize for Physics this year, called for tighter government regulation of AI firms. Prof Hinton has previously predicted there was a 10 percent chance AI could lead to the downfall of humankind within three decades.
What is the problem here? All AI large language models are programmed by humans. Because they sample vast quantities of data they may, to some, seem to be alive, especially when programmed to act as a character or person as the one in the report was.
The AI machines are not sentient beings but the programmers are. And the behaviour of fallen mankind portrayed through AI algorithms will not be virtuous and Godly.
Such circumstances may have created the opportunity for nefarious evil spirits to communicate with unsuspecting teens. What difference is there with communicating with demonic spirits through a Ouija board (spirit board or talking board)? Demonic spirits could even infect the computers themselves.
But even if no actual demonic spirit is involved in these AI machines, the humans behind them are demonically controlled. They have no reference to what is good and righteous. The software itself can be of a “dangerous and manipulative design” which represents “a threat to millions of children”.
The coming New World Order may want a dystopian future of AI control over every aspect of human life but don’t give into them. Don’t give them your children through the lure and appeal of AI.
This AI phenomenon is like the tree of knowledge of good and evil. It can be used either way but be warned, human’s generally make their choices for the evil rather than the good.
9 And out of the ground made the LORD God to grow every tree that is pleasant to the sight, and good for food; the tree of life also in the middle of the garden, and the tree of knowledge of good and evil.
Revelation 2:9 AKJV
The tree of life stands in juxtaposition to the tree of knowledge. Which do you choose?
6 And when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree to be desired to make one wise, she took of the fruit thereof, and did eat, and gave also to her husband with her; and he did eat. 7 And the eyes of them both were opened, and they knew that they were naked;
Revelation 3:6-7a AKJV
The lust or desire for that forbidden knowledge is too much for most to resist. After Adam and Eve ate of the fruit of the tree of knowledge their eyes were opened to the reality of the world and it is mostly evil.
AI in all its forms offers the same thing — a tree to be desired to make one wise. But the wisdom it offers to those who have no reference to the wisdom of God for a comparison will be only evil. The parents in the Character.AI cases discussed above were shocked because they still have some reference to what is right.
But will the next generation have any knowledge of righteousness? Without the Lord God and His laws (the 10 commandments especially) there is no way for the world to resist the evil.
For the saved believers there are Christ’s laws of love, but even they can be tempted with the lure of forbidden knowledge. Afterall Adam and Eve were the most perfect humans who communicated daily with God, yet they fell for Satan’s offer.
Beware of the dangers of AI. Use it only for good. I do. I use it for image creation, summaries and grammar correction for this blog.
Stand firm and resist the evil!
