A new research paper published on the pre-print server arXiv speculates on whether advanced alien civilizations have already been terraforming other planets and spreading life via panspermia. That is, once a planet is prepared for life, aliens could seed it with life from their own world.

Therefore the claim is that there may be more planets that have life than would otherwise be expected. Signs of that may be found in their similarities to other potential planets clustered in the same region of space.

The research was commented on in a Popular Mechanics (April 2024) article titled “A New Study Says Maybe Aliens Already Terraformed Other Planets” with the following bullet points.

  • Humans are considering the feasibility of terraforming our nearby planetary neighbor, so what if a distant alien civilization already had that idea and acted on it?
  • A new paper suggests that looking for clusters of similar planets could aid in the search for extraterrestrial life as the concepts of panspermia and terraformation would likely lead to many worlds revealing similar biosignatures.
  • While this potentially widens the target when hunting for alien life, it’s still limited by our ability to study exoplanet atmospheres as well as understanding of how life can form in the first place.

Popular Mechanics, April 2024 (my emphases added)

The authors of the research paper stated:

A fundamental goal of astrobiology is to detect life outside of Earth. This proves to be an exceptional challenge outside of our solar system, where strong assumptions must be made about how life would manifest and interact with its planet. (my emphasis added)

This is currently an insurmountable problem. Only by solving the problem of how life originated by chance in the first place could you make any progress. For example how did life arise from pond scum in a warm pool of biomolecules some 4.2 billion years ago in the alleged Hadean Eon of Earth history. That is the fictitious period of time when Earth was still very hot and cooling from liquid magna after it formed. See Debunking LUCA: Science or Speculation?

And the reason that this is such a problem is materialism. Life is not a property of the organic molecules upon which living organisms are based. Those molecules are used to build the framework and supply the fuel. But living organisms require enormous amounts of complex coded information. And that information does not come from the matter itself.

If it did it would be like saying that the ink on a page carries the information in written text. Ink and paper are the construction materials but the code written in the text carries the information. And that information can only be written (created) and read by an intelligent mind.

In living organisms the DNA molecule codes for life but where does the information come from that we find in the code?

It cannot arise by random chance processes. It must be imposed on the DNA molecules by an Intelligent Mind. It is not a property of the biomolecules themselves.

Astrobiology right now is a fact free science, a pseudoscience. This new study attempts to get around this fact by ignoring the gargantuan problem of a mechanism for spontaneous origin of life.

Here we explore a model of life spreading between planetary systems via panspermia and terraformation. Our model shows that as life propagates across the galaxy, correlations emerge between planetary characteristics and location, and can function as a population-scale agnostic biosignature.

So they look for higher level features and similarities between co-located planets, since it would take some effort for the putative terraforming aliens to travel from one planet to another.

Astrobiologists look for planetary environments similar to Earth that could support life. Earth is found in the habitable zone of our solar system where we have liquid water. The size and distance of the planet from the parent star and the size and stability of that star is critical. That has been the standard approach.

Their assumption now is that if other alien races have already started to terraform planets astrobiologists should look for clustering of similar planets with properties that would be amenable to life.

By clustering planets based on their observed characteristics, and examining the spatial extent of these clusters, we demonstrate (and evaluate) a way to prioritize specific planets for further observation—based on their potential for containing life.

Any correlation found between planets, with the right characteristics, and their location can function as a population-scale agnostic biosignature. That is their argument. The authors write that they are “focusing on a specific hypothesis of what life may do, rather than what life may be.”

By ignoring the “elephant in the kitchen” they move the goal posts and look only for similar planets which they think could support life.

This is an admission that secular science hasn’t a clue about what life is, let alone, where life came from in the first place. The book of Genesis is very clear. God, the Intelligent Mind, created all life in this universe.

To answer the headline question: Have aliens already terraformed other planets? That is easy to answer, NO!

No extra-terrestrial aliens exist. Their alleged existence is predicated on the two big false assumptions of spontaneous abiogenesis and the neo-Darwinian-evolution mechanism of mutation and natural selection as a means to increase information in the genome of living organisms. Neither are remotely possible.

Yet the claim is that if life arose on Earth by random chance then it also must have arisen elsewhere in the universe.

And if life evolved from pond scum to people over billions of years of Earth history then it also must have happened elsewhere on other planets.

And some of those extra-terrestrials may be a million years more evolved than humans and have solved all the problems of interstellar spaceflight so they could have already been terraforming planets and planting their seeds (panspermia) on those newly prepared planets.

But it is all story-telling for adults, just fairy tales.
