History describes the rise and fall of kings and princes, of rulers of all kinds. The Biblical account describes some who God greatly humbled. None are above reproach. They all must answer to the Living God. Eventually all will!
1 The king’s heart is in the hand of the LORD, as the rivers of water: he turns it wherever he will.
Proverbs 21:1 AKJV
God is the only sovereign power! He will always have His will, even though these earthly rulers, presidents and prime ministers think they hold the power.
2 Every way of a man is right in his own eyes: but the LORD ponders the hearts.
3 To do justice and judgment is more acceptable to the LORD than sacrifice.
4 An high look, and a proud heart, and the plowing of the wicked, is sin.Proverbs 21:2-4 AKJV
Right now the slaughter in the Palestinian territories continues. PM Netanyahu has unilaterally broken the ceasefire and is dropping 2,000 pound bombs of Palestinian civilians again. With President Trump’s approval! The ‘peace’ President has so quickly turned to be the war president. But God will not be mocked!
When Babylonian king Nebuchadnezzar rose to great power (under God’s will) he became proud and lifted up, so God took his kingdom from him.
20 But when his heart was lifted up, and his mind hardened in pride, he was deposed from his kingly throne, and they took his glory from him:
Daniel 5:20 AKJV
The Hebrew word רוּחַ ruach is translated as ‘mind’ has the meanings of ‘wind, spirit, breath. The wind of man or god, the breath’.
God hardened his mind, his spirit, his breath (speech). So even in Nebuchadnezzar’s pride God was sovereign. God turned his heart wherever God willed.
The same is true today in these global conflicts. God is in total control but the evil that men do they will answer for. The slaughter of the innocents they will have to pay for, eventually.
Their rise to power and their hold on power is totally under the sovereign will of God. And I include all of the would-be rulers and tyrants.
There is no way that President Trump is a follower of Jesus Christ that some erroneously claim him to be. Others say he converted to Judaism a few years ago. But many faithful Jews are against the mass slaughter of the innocents in Gaza and elsewhere.
But none of that really matters.
Trump is in God’s will in the sense that he is President of the most powerful nation on Earth. But right now it appears that Netanyahu has power over him especially in regards to the countries around Palestine.
Will Trump and Netanyahu have to eventually eat grass like Nebuchadnezzar?
21 And he was driven from the sons of men; and his heart was made like the beasts, and his dwelling was with the wild asses: they fed him with grass like oxen, and his body was wet with the dew of heaven; till he knew that the most high God ruled in the kingdom of men, and that he appoints over it whomsoever he will.
Daniel 5:21 AKJV
If the history around the king of Babylon is anything to go by then these rulers also will be humbled by the Lord God. It is God who is sovereign and will appoint whomsoever He will to rule over the kingdoms of man.
God only asks that we love and worship Him with all our heart and mind.
27 And he answering said, You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your strength, and with all your mind; and your neighbor as yourself.
Luke 10:27 AKJV (also Matthew 22:37; Mark 12:30)
He asks the same of these earthly rulers.
No one, including these presidents, prime ministers and rulers of man’s kingdoms can escape the knowledge of God. And they will be held to account for not only their actions but also their words and their thoughts. That is the ultimate thought police.
What should we do in these circumstances? Pray for the innocents, for them to know the Lord God through all this mayhem, suffering and death. But know this …
7 And the peace of God, which passes all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.
Philippians 4:7 AKJV
8 Draw near to God, and he will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners; and purify your hearts, you double minded.

I have heard commented by various commentators that the expression “mowing the lawn” is used as a metaphor by the IDF for the repeated mass bombing and killing in Gaza. It reminds me of the “plowing of the wicked”. The word ‘plowing’ here is as usually understood, the plowing of the ground. Is this the same that the tyrants are doing in Gaza?
The high look and proud heart certainly applies. Their day of judgment is not far off.
As followers of Christ we are told how we should behave in these circumstances.
19 Dearly beloved, avenge not yourselves, but rather give place to wrath: for it is written, Vengeance is mine; I will repay, said the Lord. 20 Therefore if your enemy hunger, feed him; if he thirst, give him drink: for in so doing you shall heap coals of fire on his head. 21 Be not overcome of evil, but overcome evil with good.
Romans 12:19-21 AKJV
This is the way of those who follow Christ. Never to use vengeance and violence but to overcome evil with good.
