According to the Gospel of John, chapter 19, when Jesus saw His mother and the Apostle John, the whom He loved, standing nearby, he addressed His mother from the cross. Specifically, he said, “Woman, behold, your son!” and to the disciple, “Behold, your mother!” Afterward, Jesus instructed John to take care of His mother, indicating a deep bond and concern for her welfare even in His final moments.
The question arises, why didn’t Jesus address His mother as “Mother”? Instead He used the word “Woman”. Though some interpret Jesus calling His mother “Woman” as a respectful term of address, akin to “Madam” or “Ma’am,” rather than a sign of disrespect, it begs the question, why didn’t He use the appellation “Mother”?
The answer is straightforward. He was speaking in the Spirit. The flesh or genetic lineage has no relevance to His mission on Earth. There are no Jews or Greeks or any other ethnicity in the Spirit.
The following passages make this plainly obvious.
46 While he yet talked to the people, behold, his mother and his brothers stood without, desiring to speak with him. 47 Then one said to him, Behold, your mother and your brothers [means flesh and blood relatives] stand without, desiring to speak with you. 48 But he answered and said to him that told him, Who is my mother? and who are my brothers? 49 And he stretched forth his hand toward his disciples, and said, Behold my mother and my brothers! [means NOT flesh and blood relatives] 50 For whoever shall do the will of my Father which is in heaven, the same is my brother, and sister, and mother.
Matthew 12:46-50 AKJV
When a disciple here said “Behold your mother and your brothers!” Jesus, stretching His hand toward His disciples, responded and said, “Behold my mother and my brothers!” He wasn’t speaking of the flesh even though they were probably all Jews, and not necessarily His relatives. But those who do the will of the Father are His brother, and sister, and mother. Being Jewish or not is totally irrelevant.
21 Not every one that said to me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that does the will of my Father which is in heaven.

17 And the world passes away, and the lust thereof: but he that does the will of God stays for ever.
1 John 2:17 AKJV
The only criteria to being Jesus’s brothers and sisters is to do the will of God. Those who do are not born into it through genetic lineage (by blood) or through the flesh. Nor are they born of the will of man. Only God chooses who He saves. Man has no choice!
9 That was the true Light, which lights every man that comes into the world. 10 He was in the world, and the world was made by him, and the world knew him not. 11 He came to his own, and his own received him not. 12 But as many as received him, to them gave he power [privilege, right] to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name: 13 Which were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God. 14 And the Word was made flesh, and dwelled among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.
John 1:9-14 AKJV
Therefore one cannot in any shape or form say that any ethnicity — i.e. being Jewish for example — can privilege or give some the right to eternal life. It plainly does not.
Therefore we can safely conclude that the expression “Christian Zionism” is an oxymoron. Zionism is a nationalistic political ideology for the state of Israel. A born again believer in Christ, a Christian, has no national political alignment. The two ideas are not even in the same category.
Judas Iscariot was a political Zionist and he opposed Jesus, and betrayed Him to the Sanhedrin, the religious Zionist leadership. How could a true follower of Christ be one of those?
And there is no overlap between Judaism and the doctrine of Jesus Christ. I distinguish here the use of the word “Christian” from the doctrine or teaching of Jesus Christ, because of what has become of so-called Christian doctrine, now quite perverted on this fundamental issue.
Judeo-Christian is thrown about as if there is a continuity from Judaism to the teaching of Christ, called Christianity in this instance. But nothing could be farther from reality.
Judaism is in everyway opposed to Christ. The Jewish religion aggressively opposes and denounces Jesus Christ as the Son of the living God. It was the religious Jews who denounced and crucified Jesus on the cross. The Romans were just their instrument to achieve that. That is an historical fact.
Previously I have described Christ’s work as fulfilment theology and denied replacement theology. But I was wrong. The truth is total replacement theology. Theologically there is no such thing as the nation of Israel today. That nation was totally replaced as God’s wife by Jesus Christ. In Him, the true Vine, is the true assembly of believers, His New Bride. There are no others outside that circle.
That is and has always been God’s message in the Old and New Testaments. “Looking to Jesus the author and finisher of our faith” (Hebrews 12:2); no other is even relevant. The Old wife of Israel was replaced by the Husband with the New Bride! The Old wife is no longer relevant even though she fights and opposes the true Bride at every turn.
Even among those who identify as believers of Christ one group identifies itself differently from the rest. They call themselves Messianic believers. But all who follow Christ are believers in His Messiahship.
I was teaching at a youth conference in Israel some years ago and was struck by the way they distinguished between Arabs and Jews, both groups being believers in Jesus Christ. Arabs were called “Christians” but the Jews were called “Messianic” believers. However in Christ there is no distinction, all are one.
I think the term the Messianics use is arrogant and elitist. Having any Jewish genes privileges one for nothing. It is like they want to hold onto the Old wife, even just a little. But Jesus said “He that forsakes not all that he has, cannot be My disciple!” (Luke 14:33).
Besides studies on genetics has shown there is no Jewish gene. It does not exist. Those who claim to be Jews share many genes with Western Europeans, Eastern Europeans and Middle Eastern Jews and Arabs. They are a mixed bunch.
I suspect that most Palestinians also share genes with those Jews who came to Palestine from the surrounding Middle Eastern countries over the past 100 years. So why not call them all Palestinians, whether they be atheists, or theists of the Christian, Muslim or Jewish faiths?
But because the northern 10 tribes of Israel were decimated by the Assyrian army and sent into exile many from those tribes migrated northward into Europe. That means they have mixed their genes in with European non-semitic races for at least 3 thousand years. So genetically who is Jewish? Is that where Ashkenazi Jews originate from, because Ashkenaz (Genesis 10:2-3) was the grandson of Japheth and not of Shem?
And genetically you cannot say that Jesus of Nazareth carries the genes of His earthly mother Mary as some have claimed. Christ was born of Mary in a human body but that body was prepared aforetime by the Father — “a body have you prepared for me” (Hebrews 10:5).
His body didn’t have His step-father Joseph’s genes, this we know for sure, so why assume His body has any earthly genes at all? You can’t know! The creation of His body was supernatural and preceded His earthly birth! Scripture says so.
I would go so far as to say that the evidence is against any genetic connection to any human past or present. (Not referring to lineage but to genetic information.) The logic follows like this!
Any relic of Christ is worshipped! Alleged pieces of His cross, His alleged burial shroud and any rock He tripped over is worshipped by stupid humans. Thus if you admit the thesis that Jesus shared Mary’s genes then they will also worship Mary as the Mother of God because she had some of His genes. But from the opening paragraph you can see that Jesus didn’t even call her “Mother”. He was respectful, as you would expect, but He called her “Woman”, which we understand to mean to be “Madam” in our culture.
Therefore we can answer those two questions from Jesus: “Who is My Mother? Who are My Brothers?”
They are all those who put their trust in Him and do the work of His Father. Genetics means nothing! There is no privilege in ethnicity!
Jesus replaced the symbols of Israel when He destroyed old Jerusalem and the Temple in 70 AD with His Roman armies. The Jews were scattered throughout the world of that time. That was the end of the Old wife. The New Bride is all that matters now. Jesus Christ was very clear about this when He revealed, through the Apostle John, who is new Jerusalem.
And I John saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down from God out of heaven, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband.
Revelation 21:2 AKJV
New Jerusalem is the New Bride of Christ!
No institution of man, no religion, no ethnicity or genetic lineage has any relevance. I mean not even a little bit. Only by trusting in Jesus Christ can anyone be saved. The Old wife is dead and buried!
4 Why, my brothers, you also are become dead to the law by the body of Christ; that you should be married to another, even to him who is raised from the dead, that we should bring forth fruit to God.
