The Australian government public broadcast network explains in a show BTN for under-18-year-olds that they will not be able to access any online content without age verification which in reality includes everyone.
Ironic eh? On an online news show directed to under-18s they announce that unless they sign up for the invasion of their digital privacy with biometric recognition or some other method they will not be able to access the same online show, assuming YouTube is censored to the under-16 or the under-18-year-olds.
What the government is doing will require every Australian to verify their ID, possibly with a Digital ID or biometric data (it isn’t clear yet) to access social media on the internet. So every Australian, no matter how old, will be required to verify their age before they can use the internet.
AGE VERIFICATION
There’s been a lot of talk about age verification for the teen social media ban. But soon, every Aussie, no matter how old they are, will have to confirm their age to use the internet. So, how will this go down? Well, from the 27th of December, everyone who goes online to look something up or use social media will have to verify their age. This new regulation would ensure those under 18 years of age won’t be able to see adult content and high-impact violence when surfing the web. It’s not just the inconvenience; some experts reckon these new moves could be a risk to Australians’ privacy. Tech platforms will be able to choose how they verify ages, like face scanning or photo ID. If the companies don’t follow the new rules, they’ll face fines of almost $50 million per breach.
One step closer to the digital prison. And it does not matter how old you are.
I will NOT COMPLY if this requires a government issued Digital ID. I hope it doesn’t. But it may mean the end of this website if I cannot access the internet.
