When discussing Dispensational Christian-Zionism and the claim that God hasn’t finished with the nation of Israel and that He has an end time plan for the Jews, I get people telling me that the Jews are the “chosen people” of God. And you can’t change that. Even God can’t, no matter how much they may reject His Son. Of course that is all nonsense.
On salvation various Dispensationalist ideas have been floated. Most believe in the salvation of the Jews just before Christ returns. One belief is that they will be saved “by sight” (not by faith) when they see Jesus return. Another is that they are elected despite their unbelief and will be saved at the last moment. John Nelson Darby believed in the national salvation of Israel, who then went onto live on Earth in a millennial (1,000 year) kingdom. So-called pastor John Hagee doesn’t even believe they need Christ for salvation because they are under the old covenant.
In response to my writings on this subject I sometimes get this response: “no Dispensationalists believe that Jews will be saved without Christ” and “no Dispensationalists preach salvation without Christ.” But assuming that to be true, clearly it isn’t, there still is a glaring problem with that theology. To explain that I quote below from JD Hall @LostMyHats on X.com.
[The] claim is that “no Dispensationalists preach salvation without Christ.” That’s completely beside the point, which is why that’s not a point I make.
Before I explain WHY it’s beside the point, I’ll make an anecdotal claim of my own;
I have not seen a single Dispensational Zionist aggressively defending Israel actively seeking to evangelize the Jewish people. Not one.
Greg Locke? John Hagee? Ted Cruz? Joel Berry or Seth Dillon? Which of these men stared Jews in the face and said, “Let all the house of Israel therefore know for certain that God has made him both Lord and Christ, this Jesus whom you crucified.”
Who are the ardent Jewish Supremacists and defenders of Israel like Mike Huckabee or Dinesh De’whatshisface ever stand in front of the Israelis and declare, “Repent of your sins and be baptized, every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ and save yourselves from this crooked generation.” We know that or they’d be stoned in the street and their visa revoked.
One thousand American preachers went to Israel on a trip paid by the Israeli government. Watch the videos. Not a single damned one of them preached Jesus to the Jews. Instead, they went home and preached Israel to their churches.
The point is you’ve looked at people absolutely convinced their genealogy gives them favor with God, wrapped in the their own self righteousness, and then you assure them that they’re special. You assure them their ethnicity curries favor with God. You assure them God favors them despite rejecting Christ.
You don’t have to preach that they’re saved without Christ, because your messaging doesn’t give them any reason to be saved at all!
It’s Joel Osteen gospel for Jews. It’s “God loves you. You’re special. He favors you. You’re blessed.” Osteen doesn’t have to deny Christ saves. His heresy is that he gives people no reason to need salvation at all!
The Apostles were intensely focused on over-arching message to the Jews in every epistle. They emphasized over and again that their lineage profits them nothing, and they need Christ to avoid the flames of hell. They beat that message into the brains because the single greatest hurdle evangelizing Jews is getting it into their thick heads that they’re not special.
Now you come along and preach exactly the opposite:
John the Baptist told them, “Don’t begin to say to yourselves, ‘We have Abraham as our father (Luke 3:8–9; Matthew 3:9–10),” but that’s your main point.
Peter started with their murder of the Messiah (Acts 2:36–40; Acts 3:13–19). You absolve them of the charges.
Paul uses the Greek naughty word, saying that his Jewish bloodline didn’t mean shit (Philippians 3:4–9). You tell them it’s important.
The Apostles told them God sees neither Jew nor Gentile (Galatians 3:28; Colossians 3:11). Your entire theology requires that distinction.
The Apostles told them “God isn’t a respecter of persons.” You tell them God has given the Jews special promises not reserved for no one else.” (Acts 10:34–35; Romans 2:11)
So when your instinct in front of Christ-rejecting Jews is to promise them blessing on the basis of ethnicity, that they’re uniquely special, that they’re the target of God’s special love, or that the distinction as Jews is the source of their blessings, you’re preaching such an anti-gospel, there’s no need for the real thing.
The vast sum of Christians acknowledge Hagee preaches what you claim you’ve never seen (that Jews don’t need Jesus). Yet, Hagee denies the charge. So why do so many think it? It’s because he’s lathered on the Jewish Supremacy so thick no gospel message can get through.
Jews are drowning in ethnic superiority and genetic-righteousness (provably more than any other religion on earth. Then you Dispensationalists come along and reinforce the very stumbling block keeping them from saving faith in Christ.
“You’re special” is gospel kryptonite. And you baptize them in it, in the name of the Father, Son, and Scofield Notes.
The Jews have as much a need of a Saviour as the rest of us do. There is no special race, ethnicity or tribe in Jesus Christ. The Jews can only be saved by grace through faith. Only then by being in Christ are we redeemed. All those who believe are the true Israel of God.
So why don’t the Dispensationalists preach Christ to the Jews? Instead they come along and reinforce the very stumbling block keeping them from saving faith in Christ. The very idea of a special people in a special end time dispensation is kryptonite to the gospel. It just kills the preaching of the cross.
There were those 1,074 Christian Zionist pastors invited to Israel to be trained as ambassadors for Israel. I bet not one of them preached the gospel to anyone during that stay in Israel. In fact, I read that it was a condition they had to agree to, to not practice their religion while they were there. That is works of darkness. They agreed with Belial to be silenced. Why? Because they had been brainwashed into believing that the Jews are the “chosen people”. And the gospel is silenced.
There comes a time when silence is betrayal. Let’s not be coward into silence!
