A very nice demonstration even though not rigorously scientific. Coriolis ‘force’: A fluid like water initially non rotating spirals down the drain hole in response to the spin of the planet.
Due to the rotation of the spherical planet we expect the angular momentum of fluids to move in clockwise and anticlockwise directions respectively North and South of the Equator. This is the same as the effect observed with Foucault’s pendulum. Check out Figure 1 here.
The Foucault’s pendulum has been used as evidence supporting a rotating planet. North and south of the Equator the pendulum rotates in opposite directions due to conservation of angular momentum.
Exactly on the Equator we do not expect any rotation as the components of angular momentum are equal and opposite and hence cancel each other.
The Coriolis ‘force’ is not actually a real force but an effect of conservation of momentum in any fluid body. This is also true for the air masses and it explains why we have opposite circulation directions of the air/winds north and south of the equator.
Thus this is evidence against a stationary or a Flat Earth model for the planet Earth.
