I don’t know how many times I have used the metaphor of the Emperor’s new clothes but this is yet another example. In this metaphor the Emperor is Dark Matter and his new clothes are dark photons.
The dark photon (or paraphoton and it has other names) is a fictious or hypothetical hidden sector particle, proposed as a force carrier something like the normal photon of electromagnetism but potentially connected to dark matter.
Because there are no dark matter particles in the Standard Model of particle physics an Extension has been invented and a zoo of new putative particles that weakly mix or couple to the Standard Model. The dark photon allegedly can couple very weakly to electrically charged particles through kinetic mixing with the ordinary photon and could thus be detected. So far no particles from the dark sector have ever been detected experimentally.
Only from observations of gravitational effects, that cannot be explained by visible, that is luminous, matter alone, in galaxies and clusters, has the existence of matter been asserted. All evidence is circumstantial and only from the cosmos. Dark Matter is an unknown to explain the unknown.
I remember one time at an Australian Institute of Physics conference in Canberra, an astrophysicist and Nobel Laureate was giving a public lecture to a theatre full of about 2,000 high school students. He said that we now know just about everything there is to know about the universe except for two small things, Dark Energy and Dark Matter, which make up 95% of the mass/energy content of the universe. What? We only know 5%, that is normal matter, but the 95% is totally unknown.
You see the Emperor is not only totally naked in this case he does not even exist. The unknowns are also fictitious. They don’t exist!
If you have the wrong physics then your models will result in ludicrous conclusions. This is the state of astrophysics and cosmology today.
Why do they have the wrong physics? Could it be because they do not acknowledge the Creator of the universe? Could it be that their starting assumption, that the universe arose out of a singularity some 13.8 billion years ago is totally wrong?
Dark Matter in its various forms, axions (ultralight, heavy or “fuzzy”), sterile neutrinos and other hypothetical particles, are fictitious entities postulated as a rescue device to save the pagan philosophy colloquially known as the big bang model.
The more evidence is gathered the worse it gets, the more crazy you have to become to believe in all the dark sector physics, which in reality does not exist. There are no dark photons, dark radiation (sterile neutrinos), dark matter particles, dark planets, or dark life. There are a lot of dark spirits and those dark spirits have invaded the sciences.
They influence whole fields of study that have no connection to the real world. Even when the theories have been soundly rejected, supersymmetry for example, the adherents cling for the lives into the failed paradigm.
Nevertheless the search goes on.
A massive dark photon candidate with kinetic mixing strength ϵ could spontaneously convert to a Standard Model photon. A cavity, with resonant frequency tuned to match the mass of a dark photon candidate, can be used to capture the resulting photon.
One technique to detect the presence of signal photon in the cavity is to amplify the cavity field with a quantum limited amplifier. This method is prevalent in the search for axion dark matter. With linear amplification, however, is difficult to overcome the effective noise imposed by the standard quantum limit and search for dark photon candidates that would produce a mean cavity population much less than 1 photon. — Wikipedia
I was involved in a such a laboratory search for a paraphoton using a resonant cavity in the MHz regime. Nothing was detected, but in reality all that these experiments do is add to an exclusion space. They rule out where there is no detection.
An exclusion space means you rule out all particles in a range of certain parameters, in the above case, the kinetic mixing (ϵ) and dark photon mass. That means all the coloured areas are null detections. And a lot of time and money is spent on those searches, when nothing is found.
I don’t expect you to understand all this but it effectively illustrates where the Emperor has gotten to. He is not only naked, he does not exist.
