Wisdom of the Wise is Foolishness with God

The origin of life on Earth is still a mystery to the educated scientists. They have more information about biochemistry of life than any generation before. They have more tools to manipulate complex biomolecules than ever before. Those include proteins, RNA and DNA. So why haven’t they managed to synthesize life in a test tube from only non-living chemicals?

Read this piece “The Origin of Life on Earth” published by Science News Today on July 31, 2025. That is pretty new news if here is anything new in there at all. However there is not a word in that describing how life could be created in a lab, let alone, how it allegedly abiogenetically arose on Earth some 4 billion years ago.

And yet, somewhere in that primeval chaos, something extraordinary stirred—a delicate chain of molecules began to dance, to replicate, to evolve. Life, in all its improbable wonder, was taking root. But how?

Just faith statements!

The article reads like a fairy tale or science fiction story.

They bring up the Miller-Urey experiment from 1952, the year that I was born. Just shows you how little recent science they have to rely upon.

But the toxic tar-filled sludge of the products of the Miller-Urey experiment cannot solve the problem. True that in that sludge were found amino acids after only a week of cooking it up. But those amino acids were a racemic mixture, an even mixture of lefthanded and righthanded amino acid molecules. The problem there is that life depends exclusively on lefthanded amino acids. So how could they be picked out of the mix? Remember, no advance laboratory lab was available.

The article suggests that

Though the Miller-Urey experiment has since been refined and critiqued—newer models of Earth’s early atmosphere suggest it may have been less reducing—its impact remains seismic. It showed that the basic components of life could form spontaneously. Nature, given the right conditions, could sculpt complexity from simplicity. (my emphasis added)

Well, no it doesn’t for the above cited reasons. Life could never arise from a mixture of amino acids and proteins even if they were of the correct racemic mixture.

Information is the problem. Nature is the creator which apparently could create new information as the authors have directly stated “complexity from simplicity”.

Still, proteins are not life. DNA is not life. Even a cell is not life, if it cannot replicate or evolve. The journey from chemistry to biology required more than ingredients. It required structure, replication, and most critically —information. (my emphasis added)

Information only comes from an intelligent mind. And if the current cohort of intelligent minds in the scientific community with more biochemistry knowledge than ever in human history, with massive supercomputers and data storage systems, with sophisticated AI machines, cannot create life in a test tube then it must be extremely difficult, even impossible.

They have no explanation for even the forming the molecules of life.

Modern life is built on DNA, a molecule that encodes genetic information. But DNA cannot function without proteins, which are themselves assembled according to instructions carried by DNA. This creates a chicken-and-egg problem: which came first? (my emphasis added)

It is the classic chicken-and-egg problem. The DNA instructions encode genetic information to build the thermodynamically unfavoured proteins for life’s machinery but the DNA molecule itself cannot function without the proteins it encodes.

The authors acknowledge the problem yet they don’t supply an answer for the conundrum. Only they say that the “answer may lie in RNA” and throw around the “RNA World” hypothesis.

Sidney Altman shared the 1989 Nobel Prize in Chemistry for his discovery of the catalytic properties of RNA. I once attended a lecture he gave and asked him “How do you get from non-living chemicals to the RNA molecules upon which you believe ‘life’ was built?”

After taking a good 10 minutes to explain how absolutely difficult it is to synthesize biomolecules in the lab he ended by saying that he had no idea. And that was not even life itself but just the RNA molecules that allegedly held the coded information for life.

The article goes onto state that

Evidence supporting this theory is growing. In laboratory settings, scientists have coaxed RNA molecules into forming ribozymes—RNA strands capable of catalyzing their own replication. These rudimentary systems are far from true life, but they are tantalizingly close. (my emphasis added)

But no they are not. Nothing could be further from the truth.

Even if scientists have coaxed RNA molecules into forming ribozymes that is a far cry from RNA molecules, which allegedly formed unaided in the first place, from forming ribozymes in some warm pond scum on the side of a volcano 3.8 billion years ago.

So the authors follow with more hope and faith statements but no evidence whatsoever.

If the RNA World was real, then it was a fragile beginning. RNA is unstable and easily broken down. Yet, over time, some molecules may have found shelter within lipid membranes—primitive cell walls made from fatty acids. Inside these bubbles, RNA could replicate in relative safety. The cell was born. (my emphases added)

It is more story-telling. And they cannot make an affirmative statement only that some molecules may have … In fact, 3 times in the piece they use the word “likely” because they are just telling you what they believe by faith.

Mitochondria, the powerhouses of our cells, were once free-living bacteria. So were chloroplasts in plants.

This claim is not even “likely”. They state it as a fact totally without evidence. Totally disingenuous.

Then they resort to Darwinian evolution as you might expect.

Complex nervous systems, eyes, shells, skeletons—all appeared in a geological blink. Evolution, driven by mutation and natural selection, began to sculpt the tapestry of life we recognize today.

More fiction. The fact of mutation and natural selection as observational biology is not disputed by real scientists. But it is sleight of hand, bait and switch, to say that a process that is at best conservative, that is, does not create new genetic information but actually loses information, is the mechanism by which new genetic information was added to genomes over billions of years.

But do they answer their own question on the origin of life on Earth?

And the question that began this journey—how did life begin?—has become one of our greatest scientific and philosophical pursuits. (my emphasis added)

No.

19 For it is written, I will destroy the wisdom of the wise, and will bring to nothing the understanding of the prudent [sagacious]. 20 Where is the wise? where is the scribe? where is the disputer of this world? has not God made foolish the wisdom of this world? … 25 For the foolishness of God is wiser than men, and the weakness of God is stronger than men.

1 Corinthians 1:19-20, 25 AKJV

A synonym for the word prudent used in verse 19 is sagacious. It has the meaning: Exhibiting or marked by keen intellectual discernment. Keenly perceptive; discerning, as by some exceptionally developed or extraordinary natural power.

So with all these intellects, myriads of PhDs, and several Nobel Laureates including Sidney Altman, where is the wisdom of the wise? Nowhere to be found.

For God has made foolish the wisdom of this world. They have rejected the work of the Creator, professing themselves to have evolved from bacteria and creeping things. Their story is Darwinian evolution of the microbes to man to microbiologists but it just a story. All physical evidence contradicts any reality in that story.

The fool has said in his heart, there is no God (Psalm 14:1). Because they have rejected the truth of God’s word, that He created all life on Earth less than 10 thousand years ago, He created diversity of species, He created the environment of planet Earth for all life to flourish.

21 Because that, when they knew God, they glorified him not as God, neither were thankful; but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened. 22 Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools, 23 And changed the glory of the incorruptible God into an image made like to corruptible man, and to birds, and four footed beasts, and creeping things.

Romans 1:23 AKJV

They are the real fools in this story. Those humans who reject their own Maker.

14 But the natural man receives not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness to him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned. 15 But he that is spiritual judges all things, yet he himself is judged of no man. 16 For who has known the mind of the Lord, that he may instruct him? But we have the mind of Christ.

1 Corinthians 2:14-16 AKJV

18 Let no man deceive himself. If any man among you seems to be wise in this world, let him become a fool, that he may be wise. 19 For the wisdom of this world is foolishness with God. For it is written, He takes the wise in their own craftiness. 20 And again, The Lord knows the thoughts of the wise, that they are vain [futile, empty, idolatrous] . 21 Therefore let no man glory in men. For all things are your’s; 22 Whether Paul, or Apollos, or Cephas, or the world, or life, or death, or things present, or things to come; all are your’s; 23 And you are Christ’s; and Christ is God’s.

1 Corinthians 3:19 AKJV

The Lord knows the vain thoughts of the wise, that they are futile, empty, and idolatrous. The idolatry is their rejection of the Creator and their vain attempts to create themselves a creator from 4-billion-year-old pond scum.

If you know the Lord reject such idolatry and rejoice in the Creator Jesus Christ. This is one case where being a fool for Christ is wise.
